Literature Text

The shadows creep by as the wind blows through my hair.
I walk alone, but my mind has never been so crowded.
I look up at the dark rock which showers the world in bright moonlight.
Ahead of me, a couple madly in love stagger out from a bar,
Laughing as they wrestle with gravity.
They cheerfully kill the silence of the night.
I round a corner and walk into a cat,
Which let's out an aggravated hiss that turns into a happy purr as I pet his head.
He playfully follows me for a bit until he too abandons me to the darkness of the night.
As I dive back into an ocean of silence, I think about the noises I hear everyday.
The noises that make me feel secure as well as annoyed.
At night, the waves of darkness drown them all out.
I make my way back home, but I stop in the doorway and listen.
Nothing,
The silence speaks louder than words, it tells me that I'm alone,
I am truly alone.
